Content Engagement & Research Impact
Why Status Plus
Publishing high-quality research is only part of a journal’s role. In a crowded publishing landscape, reaching the right audiences and encouraging engagement with published research can be challenging.
Effective engagement requires an understanding of scholarly publishing, journal performance, and the communities that interact with research. Status Plus combines this expertise with performance and competitive insights to help societies strengthen the visibility and impact of their content, in line with their publishing objectives.

Our Approach
We work with societies, editors, and publishing partners to assess journal priorities, audiences, and performance. By reviewing data on readership, citations, submissions, and content performance, we identify opportunities to strengthen reach and engagement.
Based on these insights, we develop initiatives tailored to the journal’s needs. These may include promoting priority content, supporting author and reviewer development, encouraging community participation, improving discoverability, or creating new opportunities to engage audiences with published research.
What We Do
-
We develop plans for promoting journal content to relevant professional and research communities. This can include identifying priority content and audiences, selecting appropriate channels, and coordinating promotional activity with societies, editorial teams, and publishing partners.
-
We review citation performance and the factors that influence a journal’s impact factor to identify opportunities for improvement. This can include examining citation patterns, content mix and article types, publication timing, and opportunities to increase awareness and appropriate citation of relevant research.
-
We monitor indicators such as citations, submissions, readership, downloads, and other available journal metrics. Regular reporting helps societies understand how content and engagement initiatives are performing and where adjustments may be needed.
-
We develop initiatives that encourage the society’s community to participate in the publishing program as authors, reviewers, readers, and contributors. This may include targeted outreach, author and reviewer development, and activities designed to connect journal content more closely with the society’s membership and wider professional community.
-
We identify opportunities to develop content around topics of particular relevance to the journal and its community, including special collections, thematic series, invited content, and other editorial initiatives.
-
We work with editorial teams and publishing partners to examine how journal content is presented, indexed, accessed, and shared. This can include identifying practical opportunities to improve discoverability across publishing platforms, search, and other channels through which readers find scholarly content.
-
We develop ways to extend engagement with research after publication, including educational content and other initiatives that bring published work back to the community and create opportunities for continued discussion and learning. Where appropriate, these activities can connect with our Educational Content Initiatives.
